Summary of the Passage

This passage happens after Jesus chose twelve special helpers called apostles. Jesus came down from the mountain with them and stood on a flat place. A mountain is a very high area of land, and a flat place is a level piece of ground. A large crowd of his followers was there waiting for him. Many other people also came from different places like Judea, Jerusalem, and the seacoast city of Tyre and Sidon. A seacoast city is a large town built right next to the ocean.

These people traveled a long way to hear Jesus teach and to be healed of their sickness. Some people were troubled by evil spirits. An evil spirit is a bad and powerful being that can hurt a person. Jesus showed his great power by helping these people. He healed the people who had a sickness, and he made the evil spirits come out of those who were suffering. Everyone was trying to touch Jesus so that they could be healed. The power coming out of him made the people healthy again. Jesus healed all of them, and no one was left out.

This passage shows us that Jesus loves and cares for all kinds of people. It teaches us that Jesus has the power to help people in their bodies and their hearts. No problem is too big for him!

Most English learners should use the Easy-to-Read Version (ERV), the New International Reader’s Version (NIRV), or the Good News Translation (GNT). If you want to try something harder, you can read one of the other Bible versions.
