“This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be happy today!” – Psalm 118:24 (ERV)

Dear Father,

Every day is a gift from you. You know what each moment will bring. You are never surprised by what happens. From the first pages of the Bible, you show your love. You use both joy and hard times to do good things. You saved Joseph from prison. You used him to feed many people during a time with no food. You used the hard times of Job to show your faithfulness. You took the cross, the darkest moment in history, to bring salvation through Jesus. Your wisdom is much greater than my own. I praise you for your power and perfect timing.

I confess that I do not always believe in your goodness when things go wrong. I doubt your plans when my goals fail. I doubt when my health goes away. I doubt when broken friendships hurt my heart. I ask why hard times happen. I forget that you see the whole picture. Your plans are not meant to hurt me. Yet, in my weakness, I sometimes expect bad things. Please forgive my lack of trust. Please forgive my habit of complaining.

Thank you for being patient with me. You do not leave me when I struggle to understand. You are a kind father who with your children through pain and confusion. Even my bad choices are within your power to fix. The mistakes of other people are within your power too. You bring hope to sad situations and remind me that this life is not the end of our story. You give joy that does not depend on easy times and promise that all sadness will go away one day in your bright light.

Psalm 118:24 (ERV): “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be happy today!”

Lord, help me to follow Psalm 118:24 as I walk through life. Let thankfulness come quickly from my heart when days are easy. Remind me that you are still near and still good when days are heavy. Teach me to be happy because you are with me in every moment you make.

Help me trust your plans even when I cannot see them. Make me strong to meet each day with thankfulness, a calm heart, and hope. Let my words, my actions, and my choices show my belief that this day belongs to you. Gently turn my thoughts back to you when I forget.

Thank you that I will see how even the hardest days were used for good one day. Until then, give me a glad heart. Give me words that speak truth. Give me a spirit that finds joy in your endless love.

In Jesus Name I Pray. Amen.
