Growing as a Good Wife

Marriage is one of God’s most beautiful and special gifts. It is a relationship designed for our happiness and to help us live holy lives. It is a daily chance to show grace, patience, and strong love in ways that show God’s love for his people. Yet, marriage can still be hard. Our selfishness gets in the way. Our words can hurt people. Tired feelings sometimes take over. This prayer is a kind invitation to come to the Lord with honesty, thanks, and hope. It helps us ask God to make our hearts strong, build our character, and teach us to love our husbands with a deep love that lasts in every season.

Dear Father,

You are good and kind. You are faithful in all your ways. You give every good and perfect gift. I praise you for the wisdom you give through your word. You deserve my highest love and my deepest trust. You made the earth, and you made me to be like you. In your kindness, you made marriage to show your strong love. It is a place where grace, mercy, and love can be shown every day. I praise you because you care about our relationships and call us to love others like you love us.

Father, I admit that my heart is often divided. I slip into selfishness easily. I seek my own wants and comforts instead of serving my husband with kindness and wisdom. I confess that impatience, pride, and angry thoughts sometimes grow where gentleness and grace should be. Please forgive me for the times I spoke words that hurt instead of helping. Forgive me for times I did not give encouragement or stayed quiet when I should have spoken good words. Cleanse me, Lord, and make my spirit right again inside me.

Proverbs 31:10-12 (ERV) says, “How hard it is to find the perfect wife. She is worth far more than jewels. Her husband depends on her. He will never be poor. She does good for her husband all her life. She never causes him trouble.”

Thank you, Lord, for the husband you gave me. Neither of us is perfect, but I am happy that you brought our lives together. Thank you for the ways he shows your love, for his strengths, and for his gifts. Thank you even for the hard times that help me grow and show my need for you. I am thankful for the trust that grows between us. Help me to love him as a precious gift.

Teach me, Father, to be an excellent wife. Do not let me follow the changing rules of this world, but teach me by the wisdom of your word. Make me trustworthy so my husband can trust me completely. Let my words be full of grace. Let my actions be full of goodness. Help me to do good things for him and never cause him trouble all the days of my life. Shape my character to be more like Jesus: patient, kind, humble, and strong. Fill my heart with wisdom so I can build a good home with care.

In easy times and in hard times, remind me that you are the source of real joy and strength. May our marriage show your strong love, and may our lives bring glory to your name.
